Default What to do?

I have a 2004 Silverado 5.3 Z71 and want more power. I had picked up a Cam and springs a while back and decided against it and sold it. I want something with lots of power. It's either a Supercharger or Turbo. I've read through the Vs. thread and don't know what's right for me? The truck is a DD driven to school adn back on the highway, and put around 100 miles on it daily. I dont pull trailers or take it off road. So no need for the torque of a Supercharger..but i love the sound. Turbo is a cool idea, and I'm very familir with them as i have friends with turbo'd 4cyl cars. But it's a whole diff ball games with the V8. I'd like to keep the 5.3 and put FI on it, but don't know if it's worth it, or to just step it up and get a LS? Thoughts?

all depends on the type of money your willing to spend. you can make alot of power with a 5.3 if your gonna go FI... if you go turbo your gonna find ur self spending around 5000 for a brand new turbo kit and fuel upgrades such as fuel pump and injectors and tune and possible find you a used z06 cam and ls6 springs which will increase ur power by 50-100rwhp and cost almost nohting. if ur interested in turbo kits check out kbracing96... he is a sponsor on here that does some good work. he set me up with my kit and he is by far the easiest person to get ahold of!

Your never going to get anyone to agree on a power adder.

Look in this thread, the guy with a procharger says procharger, the guy with a turbo says turbo, and the guy with a magnacharger says magnacharger.

From what you listed, sounds like a turbo would be better for you. Good highway mileage, more potential power than a supercharger, but they are most costly usually.

I would try to get a ride in both a turbo setup and a supercharger setup. I've got a whipple on my truck and its fast yet still very drivable. The best way for me to describe it is I feel like I am driving something with a giant engine. The boost is pretty much instant and it doesn't have that lag feeling at all. I also have a turbo M3 the feeling of driving that is more like. going going going then bam 200+ more HP. Its a pretty abrubt feeling. They are both neat and do different things better. The power delivery is much more civil with the blower and the power delivery of the turbo is much more violent.

Whatever you decide to go with, you will NEED to do something with your transmission. It's very possible that you may spend more on your transmission than on your forced induction setup.

Lag depends on the setup though. If you have a poor turbo setup you can have tons of lag, but if its setup right you can get it down to not much lag at all.

SilveradoL33s truck didnt really have any lag with the converter and turbo setup.
