Slowhawk,
All good

Do you guys do any sort of "health checkup" on engines prior to modding/tuning them? What are your thoughts on dynamic compression from the factory? I seem to remember some LS1's would have abnormally high dynamic compression from the factory... and most if not all of those rides proved difficult to obtain "expected" power levels when tuning for forced induction. Just remembering back a few years ago I got the impression that dynamic compression on LS1's were somewhere around 170-180 and some were over 200. Maybe my numbers are off a bit... but it just seemed some motors were more than 10% higher. Not sure this ties into the #7 problem but perhaps aggravates it. Wondering if dynamic CR on factory truck motors... is dynamic itself from motor to motor...

I don't know if this will be of much help, but I borrowed a Fluke Ti30 Thermal Imager for the weekend. I'm still foolin with it getting the best data possible. It's not really made for close work.

Front Left

This is of my nearly stock engine. It would be interesting to see what an FI engine would look like, but I don't know anyone who has one. I'll get a few more pics in a bit, photobucket is not playing well.

Left Rear

Overall view of left bank.

Right Rear

I realized just how much stuff there is on top of the engine, because it is impossible to get a good shot of the complete head. The hottest area of all is the exhaust manifold flanges at about 380F. All these shots were taken with the engine at normal operating temperature and idling.

I'm going to try to get a few shots of my neighbor's race car for comparison(Nothing but motor in the engine compartment).

Edit: I think I got left and right backwards on some of these!!!!
