Default Wastegate problem

I have a strange problem that I can't seem to resolve. My wastegate won't open when it gets below about 25 degrees which in PA is almost every day this time of year. I have been trying to resolve this for a while and have had no luck. I have vaccume tested all of my vaccume lines and they are perfect. My wastegate and methanol are both running off of the side intake port and my methanol doesn't work either when its that cold. I pulled the vaccume line off for the methanol controller and blew into it and it will spray like that but not hooked up to the intake.

I also vaccume tested the wastegate which would not hold vaccume so I thought that was the problem. Then I tested a brand new Tial wastegate that I have sitting here and it wouldn't hold vaccume either. They both will hold vaccume from a test pump but they both leak down quickly. That leads me to believe that it's normal for wastegates to leak but I'm not sure. So far I have managed to drive this thing every day like this but it's PITA since it goes into boost so easy with this little 60-1 turbo and I have be really carefull. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check your lines and wastegate for water. They are known to get condensation in them and freeze up at cold temps. Blow them out and dry out the wastegate and see how it goes.

Do not blow in a methanol line or breath it for that matter it is a deadly poison. It will turn you blind and then can lead to death. We are all probably a little lax in our handling of methanol. Strictly speaking we should wear rubber gloves and an approved respirator when we handle methanol.

That's why I don't plan on using meth.

I will try blowing everything out and try drying out the wastegate. I was blowing into the vaccume line for the meth controller not the actual meth line. Thanks

I had that problem once in a while with it too. Seems condensation would collect on the back side of the WG and then freeze and not let the WG open. I though about drilling a small hole in it on the bottom, to let it drain out before it would freeze. FWIW, the front mount does it too. Once it worms up, it would thaw and the the gate would open and blow the water out the tail pipe.

I must be getting a ton of condensation in there. It's actually pretty cool when it doesn't freeze. The first time I boost it every day when it's cold outside it blows out a huge cloud of steam when the wastegate opens. It's like a two second smoke screen. LOL
