I was wondering how well do the under cab mounted intercoolers compare to fromt mounted ones? And I saw that some people utilized a air scoop attatched to the bottom, does that help with when used with e-fans. Right now plan to use this 29" x 11" intercooler with dual fans mounted under the rear passanger door But I was wondering if it would be enough cooling for summer days when it reacher over 110 degrees, there is enough room to run two of these if i need to. Or is it better with it mounted behind the air dam, and for those who did what is the best route for the piping right now I am making the charge pipes and wanted to get some input, so any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

just my $.02 but i think up front would be much better. 99.9% of the time you are not under boost and do not need any airflow over that intercooler so the fans will be a waste. once you do get into boost you will want a lot of airflow over the intercooler and it is hard to beat 30-100+mph wind blowing right at the intercooler. what speed do you think the air is going thru the intercooler with the fans? 10mph? and it isn't thru the entire core either since there is no shroud.

 

Right now I only have a space about 5"x2.5" open in the air dam, didn't think that was going to provide much air flow. I guess a denali front end may be on the way soon with a front mounted one, or is there a way to maintain a/c when mounting behind the grill on a gmc.

 

Is there anyone with a under cab intercooler that would like to give your opininons?

 

there is a guy with a barrel W2A StS Silverado SS on here...it is a nice unit.

 

thats one of the nice things about an a2w. it can be put anyplace. an a2a needs good airflow when the truck is moving and what better place that right up front?

 

a2a up front is my recommendation.

 

I thought about an under cab intercooler but heard that you just don't get the cooling with the length of pipe between the intercooler and the intake. Plus the largest cross-section is picking up pavement heat. You pick up that heat and engine compartment heat. Considering how hot it gets in Vegas (spent six years there from '91-'96. Pavement will be +160 degrees. Thats alot of ambient heat. You could get a custom intercooler to fit in the available space.

 

i would say up front i have the side mount under the pass. side but front is much better

No problem with airflow there...
