Default TVS 2300 on top of a LQ9

okay, so I have a 04 vmax engine, stock, decided not to dig into it as it runs so well. I have just been adding bolt ons and the engine has responded well. so far I got a Yank 3200 stall, beefed 4l65e, 3.73 ratio, and CAI, LPP longtube headers and ORY. I have pondered upon a cam swap, and decided not to do that just yet, untill I build an all out motor. I rather put my money into a SC tvs 1900 or 2300. But after some research I decided I should stick with a 2300, lower the psi to about 5 or 6, and cutback on timing. I have a very capable tuner for my truck, one of the best in my eyes. On the stock lq9 Im thing 500-550RWHP make me happy untill I finish build my motor.

Plans are to build a high compression, camed forged 408 for the tvs 2300, and up the boost to about 15 or so. Not even much, as I will be making good numbers with the high compression build. Just was wanting to get some people opinions on how the lq9 will respond to about 6psi? I have seen alot of ls1s with tvs 2300 so was planing something similar.

Cam it and up the boost on your LQ9 and love life!

I think people start thinking they have to build strokers and they end up spending alot of money and seems like strokers dont last long with FI IMO.

Stock long blocks run SOOO good with Forced induction.
Just slap a blower on and have fun!

Tim so with a cam I can up the boost on a stock lq9? What is a safe goal for me with the 10:1 compression? 600 rwhp? I rather not even do a cam just yet, and save all coins for the 2300. Still got lots of research to do, but i know what my next mod is, before i throw cash at this truck again.

A cam costs peanuts compared to a blower, and they complement each other so well. With that stall and a 2300 it'd be a shame not to have a cam. I'd do it first, they're a piece of cake.

Bud, im am no expert LOL.

But you should be fine with 10-12 psi no prob, its all in the tune. Wait till you drive that stock engine with boost, it will knock your socks off and prob be too much for the street!

My truck with LQ4 ( 9.4 CR) and cam, headers ect, TVS1900 makes Over 520 to the wheels at 10 psi, 600 flywheel, i could up the boost a lil bit but damn its already tractionless on the street and a real Eyeopener when you mash the gas, its just sick !

So your goal of getting 600 at the wheels can be achieved with boost on your stock engine.

Dont get caught up in all these high dollar build going on,

In the real world, a blown cammed stock LSx engine is a real *** kicker and prob more power than 99% of people need LOL.

To answer your question, as i was taught by my buddy Pat, boost is a measure of restriction or how well your engine flows.

So if you have an all stock engine, add a blower and make 10 psi, cool.
But then you add headers and enhance the breathing characteristics, you might lose a pound of boost, but gained power due to better flow.
Same with a cam , a cam spec'd to you engine with a blower will make the engine more effiencent and you might see 7 psi instead of the 10 you started with but really have a huge gain in power. Then you can drop a pulley size or two and up the boost and be amazed.

You would def be happy with a TVS 1900, but since the prices are close you say you might go bigger down the road a 2300 would def. be a good choice.

Tim thats exactly the sort of input I was searching for. From what you are saying the 2300 will more than fit the build, and still allow me to move my investment to another engine if the inevitable ever happens. I would be more than happy with 600rwhp and quite contented untill I could up the boost on another motor in the future. I already have longtubes with ORY, and 3200 stall. I think it will make the blower shine well regardless on choice of blowers.

I could not agree with you anymore about these super builds to the moon. When a GM engine can fit the bill and make the power easy. Heck Im anxious to see what the lq9 will do with the added compression & blower.

Tim need videos of that ride man...

You may want to reconsider that 3200 stall, first off that is too high already for a Roots blower you will be loosing allot of your good tq curve. Second when you put the blower on the 3200 is going to stall even higher then it does now. Just food for thought.

yea the 3200 is when I was going to stay NA, but since then plans have changed. May even go back to a stock converter when the time comes.
