Default Turbonetics Hurricane Series

Has anybody had any luck with the turbonetics hurricane series? I'm looking at the Hurricane 78 Benita Ball Bearing turbo to replace my 62-1. It's the biggest I can go without having to modify my downpipe/t4 flange. Jose at Forced Inductions said this will outperform a TC78. I've decided to go ball bearing because most people say that it will support more power due to the fact that ball bearing turbos don't have a thrust bearing to fail.. Not to mention, a little quicker spool!

Hurricne 78 BB Specs:

Horsepower: 650-800
Comp Wheel: HP-78
Comp Inlet/Outlet: 4.0" / 2.5" Non-Ported Shroud
Turbine Wheel: F1-68
Turbine Housing Inlet: T4 0.96 A/R
Turbine Housing Outlet: 3" V-Band

Still a 68mm turbine and t4 flange, seems the only thing youre really gaining is the ball bearing part. I wouldnt pay the premium for just a little gain when you can pick up tc78s all day long for half the price. Do you really need a 1400$ turbo, that would go a long way towards some t6 hotpipes and you can get any number of cheaper t6 turbos that will support less or more power all on less boost than that t4 flange turbo if you really do end up pushing it like you say youre intent on doing.

I believe the Hurricane is supposed to have a bigger compressor housing than a TC78 which will make more power than a TC unit. I agree, the money could be spent on T6 parts but I'm working with the kit I've got for now. If somebody would buy my kit, then I would gladly try out a T6 style. Just don't want to be stuck with two turbo kits ya know?

Compressor side can flow all it wants but if the exhaust side is chocked up its not going to do any better. Hell there isnt much difference power wise between the tc76 and tc78, youre basically taking one step up from teh tc78 which cant be too much more due to the small exhaust side but it will spool faster with the BBs. I too have been doing a lot of turbo reading lately

glad to see you are moving forward
have you consider using a bigger down pipe, with the cheaper turbo?
it sucks that as soon as the turbo is modded its super expensive...even s400's go up quick once you start modding them.

**** i was scared to try my 62-1 after my 6L swap, guess I should tried.

I wouldnt let direct swap turbo, limit what you really want.

What power goals/ et do you want?

Thanks, yeah they sure do! I'd have to send the kit in to get modified for a bigger down pipe. I'd rather sell this one and start fresh.

I want single digits with a forged 370.

Stock48 is running one now. Likes it very well, spools great and make a ton of power. I can get you guys a great deal on them too.
