I am curious as well about turbos on a relatively stock 5.3. The 7668 turbonetics and Borg s366 are looking good, but I'm also thinking mid mount.

i just thought about this.
if I have the ability to make a new dp with only one day of down time then whats to stop me from getting a cheaper bw turbo and using the difference in price from the pte unit to pay for the materials for the bw turbo.
the bw needs a 4in dp and has the option for the bigger a/r's. with the pte turbos I can get a .96 as the largest a/r when on the bw units I can get it in a 1.10 or even bigger...
will getting a .96 rather than a 1.10 a/r hinder the hp potential? would a 1.10 make the turbo really peaky? or am I splitting hairs? other than that I see all the turbos I listed as being pretty much the same.
I guess I am caught between the two options of paying more for the pte turbo and using the dp I have now or getting the cheaper bw turbo and using the money that I would have spent on the pte model on t&m for the new 4in dp I would need.

Nothing is easier than a bolt on swap. Same t4. Same 3inch dp. Same 2.5 outlet. Just a better turbo.

You wouldn't need an entirely new dp, just the correct flange and a reducer. Fairly straight forward.
I don't know what the mp or turbonetics compressors or turbines flow but they seem to work. The s366 has a compressor that flows almost 80lbs/min ( at a higher PR then we would ever need, I know) and has a 73mm turbine. And at ~$650 is extremely reasonable . Yet I cannot find a single person on this board who has run one! I am very interested in hearing from someone who has ran one. Could be a great street turbo.

Wow you are cutting the cam swap way way short. Keep in mind power gains from boost are related to NA power. Lets say on a stock cam you are making 200hp in a lab environment you should make roughly 50% more power on 7.5ish lbs and 100% more on 15ish lbs. So adding 7.5lbs you would make 300ish HP. Now lets say you jump to 250hp with a triple 12 cam. Adding 7.5lbs you should hit 375hp. That is a 75hp bump with a cam swap. The numbers get much more awesome as you turn up the boost since its exponential not linear. For example if you make 15lbs your looking at 400hp on a stock cam or 500hp on a triple 12. I would swap your cam before you swap turbos. The turbo current isn't choking you off by any means. Even at 500hp you will still be okay until you get into the upper rpm range were it will run out of some topend.

I have to disagree with this. If you have a 3.5in outlet on the turbo I think your dp and exhaust should be the same. especially if your already having someone make an adapter to reduce the 3.5 to 3. Have a new dp made because 3.5 can fit, do it right the first time. only thing I would say it is ok to reduce exhaust is if you have a cut out and after it you want to run a smaller dia exhaust and muffler. upgrading to a bigger/better turbo just to "choke" it 3 inches away from the housing is not something I would personally do

I guess I never thought about the cam swap that way. It would seem like I would gain more for my money if I went and did the cam package first. Because swaping turbos won't really gain me much even if I went with a 3.5-4 in dp for the turbo.
I guess I can start looking around for the parts to get it altogether then. I kinda did a little research but I guess I can start from scratch and really see what my options are.

I'm wondering why you already want to change out turbos when you haven't even turned yours up to see what it can do? The stock cam along with a .68 a/r is definitely going to choke out pretty early up top, but I would add a cam like the triple 12 like a lot of guys have already said before you go changing turbos...it will feel completely different up top than compared to your stock cam now
