Default Turbo Truck Platform Help

Hey guys... been a while since I been here... I have been in the F-Body world for quite some time, and now Im looking at getting back into the truck game.

Im wanting to build a Turbo Silverado... probably an 05+ and just scratching the surface on what it takes, what my options are, who makes kits, and who has made their own. (I prefer my own).

It wont be my first trip into the FI world. I did a front mount build on my 98 SS a while back and it was a blast.

Having had a 00 SVT Lightning, as well as an 04 Ram SRT-10, ive had some fun trucks, but there is nothing like a FI LSX motor to make you smile. So I have a few questions, as opinion based as they may be, Id like some input.

Best year range of truck for a build?

4.8 or 5.3 (and supporting arguements?)

4x4 or 4x2

Front Mount High or Low?

and any and all tips you guys are willing to give. Im pretty pumped to get back in the game here! Thanks!

Lots of guys are taking the 4.8 and throwing stupid amount of boost to it with great success. Personally I would go 4x4 for the luxury if instant traction from a dig if you choose you want it.

Yeah im digging the idea of 4x4 for serious launch ability... do the 4x4 drivetrains hold up ok with some power and launches? (I know all about the 4L60)...

AKlowriderZ71 is running a boosted 5.3 and I know he isn't easy on his stuff and his seems to be holding up quite well. I would let some of the other 4.8 guys speak up though as to how theirs is holding up.

I will be testing the GMT-900's ability this summer at the track. Hoping everything holds together for me

I am AWD so I am in kind of a different boat, I have a different T Case. The 4x4 Tcase has shown to be pretty reliable even at higher power levels. Just dont try shifting it out of 4x4 when under high loads.

Stock NP246 here, just rebuilt it. Haven't really had a chance to test it yet but its probably taken 700rwtq so far. Mostly stock 80e... Running a boosted 4.8 for now...turned it up near 18psi first day I had it in, and it just kept pulling. Very impressed with it. Its a dog below 10psi but when 15 rolls around, better hold on

I am digging Atomic and Smoke show's setups. 4x4 RCSB with front mounts and 4l80es.

I guess it depends on your power levels and if you run on the street or not. Traction is a concern then.

I've pulled some 1.7's 60 ft times, launching my truck in 4hi at the track. I do it all the time on the street too. Once I get some better tires on this thing, I'm hoping for some 1.6's. Mods are in sig.
