I am making 550 wheel horsepower at 15 psi and it is lifting the heads a bit. So, can't go any higher. I am not making full use of the turbo. I know the 94mm turbo was a mistake.

I am looking to size down. What size turbo would you go for on a 383 stroker?
I am looking to be around 900 - 1000 wheel horsepower

Thanks!
Hp is off at that psi. CHODA make almost 100 more 5,3L.
With our 76/75 turbo.
1000hp can be done with a smaller turbo 80-84mm can do it.
To make 1000hp you'll give up down low fun.

There is the S480 and the S480SX-E. Don't know which one makes more sense. The power rating for the S480 is 1250hp and the S480SX-E is 1350 but the price difference is almost a $1000! Is the price difference justified with the "enhanced" version?

Also, will I be giving up down low fun if I did go with the S480 rather than, say the PT7675?

If you are lifting the heads only making 550hp you have more problems than the turbo. Either way I believe I've read before that a t4 housing isn't big enough to keep up with the 80mm compressor so no point in going up to a s480 unless you do a t6 housing. At that point that's still a BIG turbo and probably more than you need.

True! Am I out of luck with those 4 bolt heads then? I have studs installed.

To my understanding, the 94mm turbo is way out of its efficiency range at 15 psi, so it wont be making good power at that boost level. Whereas a smaller turbo in its efficiency range at 15 psi will make loads more power. The volume of air sucked in by the turbo is too much even at 15 psi which is possibly why I smell coolant after WOT from the heads lifting even for a few micro mm. This is my theory, I could be wrong.

What do you think at this point?

something is defenetly wrong , i would suggest to look a lil better , bw units are good dont get me wrong but it also depends on your budget. we have tried and compared from bw units and bullseye turbos and you can see a lot of difference. look us up and see our work, spike performance...... i dont know why but maybe its us but t6 stuff hasnt really worked for us , we really dont like tbrakes on the 4l80 so we have stick with bullseye on thight converters and seems to do the trick , great 60ft and great mph, eighter too laggy or make the power way on top , bullseye offers an 83/96 on a 1.25 ar which works awsome , i tried that turbo on one of our customers truck and ran a 9.4@149 @ 19 psi on the t4 on a full weight truck single cab

4bolts tend to lift heads around 1000rwhp, but that can be extended to maybe 1300hp with some extreme measures. If you are lifting around 500hp something is wrong.

The 94mm being too big will show up as very slow spool and compressor stall. Basically you are too far to the left on the compressor map without spinning the hell out of the engine.

T4 is perfectly capable of making 1000rwhp. I just said T6 because they are generally cheaper and "easier" to make bigger power on.

T4 Borg works well on 5.3L all the way up to 408.
Depending on the end game.
