Default Turbo Oil Weight

What engine oil weight do you guys recommend for your standard KB/Trick front mount turbo trucks? Is there a need to go thicker due to the additional heat or clearances in the turbo bearings?

I just bought Mobil 1 10W-30, will this be okay? I'm a Mobil 1 guy, but they don't make any 40 weight that isn't their "high mileage", 0W-40, diesel, or motorcycle.

My setup will be a KB intercooled kit, MP70, looking for 500 rwhp. I will be running a 160 t-stat and e-fans so I can keep the temps relatively low. My oil pressure is around 60psi cruising.

Oh and as long as you keep it changed, just bout any oil will do. Clean oil is the ticket.

Ive always heard dont go higher then a 30 weight oil that some of the older trucks (02 and older) have problems with the oil pumps with heavy oil. But I always and will still run 10w-30 Amsoil 100% synthetic oil. But I will back my oil change interval down from 5k-6k down to every 3k once the turbo goes on.

Interesting, haven't heard that before. I have used other brands of 10W-40 before without issues.

Reading your sig it sounds like we have/will have similar setups pretty much, minus the trans and 2wd/4wd

haha yea it does! gonna keep mine tame for awhile at 7-10psi. once the engine or trans starts wearing out ill do the 80e swap and then go turbo cam, studs, and push it up to 12-14psi . Just want to get low 12s and keep it reliable.

But yea, I just remember a pretty big discussion on here many months ago about oil weight and people saying our pumps werent designed to handle anything over 30 weight. Which appearntly cant be true.

With a turbo you need something with a lot of zinc, like a racing oil. I prefer brad penn personally. Currently use 10w30 but just got a case of 20w50 for whenever I need to change it. Turbos need very good oil.

Aren't high-zinc oils bad for catalytic converters? I will be running cats on my setup for daily driving, and a cutout for not so daily driving.

Ah, I missed the Cali part... yes, typically they arent good for converters....but then again emission laws and race parts dont usually go together.
