Default Turbo for 5.7l?

This winter I will be building a 5.7l engine from a 5.3l block.
The question I have is turbo size.
I have the base STS turbo right now but want to make sure I have the right sized turbo when the engine is installed, I really don't want to tweak everything in only to find out that the base turbo will not supply enough to the new engine displacement.
I also plan on moving the turbo up front but still under the truck if possible. I want to decrease the lag somewhat.
As far as engine internals go I still have not decided on those, I want to keep close to the stock 5.3l compression ratio and just do a build that will handle boost over the long haul better, maybe a Z06 cam too?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
One more thing, I don't want to do a 6.0l, just my choice plus, the LS1 components are readily available and seem to be a little lower in price.

Thanks all!

just purely from what i have read, it seems like a GT67 or a GT70 with a medium to small AR housing will be what you want. again this is purely from what i have read on here, i have no experience with turbos.

what is more important to you, spool/lag or being able to pull hard up top?

what rpm does it need to be at full boost by?

how high will you be spinning the motor?

A t67 works great with a 5.7. If bolt the turbo to the back of a custom y-pipe it will spool muck quicker. Ceramic coat the stock exhaust manifolds and y-pipe also. Here is a link to some picks of mine. My bb t76 spools the same as my old setup with the 67.

Hey nice set-up quick! That is definetly an option for me as far as location goes.
So is that baby turbo the base STS turbo and the t67 shown next to it?
If so WOW, I never knew how tiny my turbo really was til I compared it to someone elses.
That just sounded weird.

nightrunner, I am going for a little better spool but still want to keep my turbo out of the engine compartment for heat reasons. I know it's been done and proven but all that crap under the hood makes it a bitch just to do anything under there on top of the heat in my eyes.

I hoping the engine I build will have about 330hp NA before the turbo and be able to handle 10-12 psi all day, every day even if my tune is not perfect.
The temps here vary from below zero to near a hundered in summer, kind of a bear to compensate for that big of a swing. This will definetly be a slow leaarning process for me.
Hopefully be getting a welder soon.

The small one is a t67. The larger one is a t76.

A T67 is nothing more then a T60 with a lager compressor wheel and the inside of the cover machined out for it. Physically they look the same on the outside.

Possible to do a wheel and housing swap yourself? Doesn't look too complicated as far as parts go. Tolerances are pretty loose are they not?
