Default Trick turbo going on this weekend

My son and I will be installing a Trick turbo with aftercooler on his '05 GMC this weekend. If anyone has any tips that would head off problems or speed the process, they would be greatly appreciated. It sounds pretty straight forward, but I've been in the middle of many "so simple a caveman could do it" jobs that turned into real cluster f**ks. I'll let ya'll know how things are going and how the finished product turns out.

I hopefully will be installing mine this weekend too. I already got the FMIC installed and am pulling the pan today or tomorrow to tap in the return lines. Hope your install goes well.

WJ...here's a tip for you. Allen Nelson told me to leave the pan on, put plenty of grease on the drill bit, and go slow. He said to drill on the right front portion of the pan. Said you'd get little of nothing in the pan. I still plan on changing the oil and filter soon after the install. Your '01 might not have as much room in the front as my son's '05. You can damn near stand between the front of the motor and the fans on his truck.

I did this on a friends car and it worked fine. I lubed up the bit a lot and drilled a bit then cleaned up and relubed and drilled a bit and did this over and over a couple of times. Came out nice with nothing in the pan .

You will need a piece of exhaust pipe for final connection from DP to your exhaust.

The tranny crossover some time has to be removed to get the stock exhaust out cleanly and undamaged.

Install the 1/2npt fitting into the oil drain flange. Making sure not to over tighten the fititng so the thread come out the other side. If they do you will need to sand that area flat, or you will have a leak.

Install your drain flange, and pressure fitting while the turbo is on the bench.

Install the manifold first reusing the stock gasket. tighten bolts to factory specs.
Route your new heater hoses to clear the manifold. I always go infront of the head then down. You will need to rotate the heater hose junction in the front of the engine slightly forward. use the new clamps for the heater hoses from the kit.
Mount the turbo leave bolts a little loose....
Mount the crossover snug the bolts, but not over tight, do not forget about the gaskets.
Install downpipe, leaving the vband clamp at the turbo loose. Mark where you are going to install your o2 bung, where the o2 wires clear hot parts, and so you can remove o2 sensor later easily. remove and install o2 bung, remember to use antiseeze on the threads when install all o2 sensors.
reinstall downpipe leaving the vband clamp to turbo loose.

Install waste gate, onto crossove tighten bolts.
Mate gate to downpipe and snug those bolts.

Now tighten the vband clamp to turbo. REtighten the turbo to manifold flange.
tighten all other bolts.

You leave everything a little loose in the begin to help get all the bolts started easier. it also helps to install a little antiseeze on all threads, especially o2 and the ones going into the head.

Hot side will not take you long at all.

and you can always drop a line if you need anything.

Thank you for purchasing the kit. Drop me a pm with address and I will forward you a couple of shirts. need sizes too...lol

Rick

yeah I won't have this in there this week but it will be in early next week. Drilling in the pan without taking it out, Wow You guys are brave! I drill holes all day long and Im not about to risk losing a 1,000.00 dollar turbo over being being lazy and spending an extra hour to pull the pan. Its up to you if you wanna take short cuts. Trust me your gonna get alot of chips in there.

INTRO kit runs 4054.00 without IC.
On my 6.0L ran 10psi regular basis.

If you click on the banner it should take you to the website for the turbo kit.
