Finally have time tonight to work on the truck (06 Silverado) And installing a cam/turbo tonight.
Does anyone know if I have to remove the oil pan in order to drill in the return line? What size drill and tap size? I was told 3/8"

Does the gasket need to be replaced? I already started on it

FWIW I drilled and tapped the pan with it in the truck, used lots of grease and went slow. I had to take the engine out a short while after for other reasons, and there was still alot of shavings in the pan.

It's not too hard to remove the pan from what I've heard, just need to unbolt the crossmember. Maybe harder if it's 4WD, not sure. Don't need to replace the oil pan gasket, but you might as well. I got my Felpro one for $40 shipped. Or you can plumb it into the timing cover since you will have it off for the cam swap. This is what I'm planning on doing.

You can do either.
Drilling and tapping with grease once done. Put some grease on your finger tip. Reach inside and pick up
the shavings that dropped (only works if taping front of pan).
I use to be you half to pull the pan. Until I drop a pan on a brand new truck. And seen all the crap in the bottom.

Can it also be used on the front timing cover?
