Default tailpipe+Turbo

after 3 months without a muffler or a tailpipe on my STS kit, i put one there today and i hate it because the truck wont make full boost and would only make it at higher RPMs. i didnt put a muffler, it is on a 3 inch tailpipe that goes on the right corner. what are you guys with turbos using as a tailpipe or what would you recommend?

I run a 3" tailpipe on mine and it seems to work fine. I have a TO4E housing with a .81A/R. Not sure why you are having this problem.

My STS 4.8 didn't come alive till I wrapped the tailpipe to the turbo and put a .68 housing on the T60. Those headers and unwrapped pipes are KILLING your egt's which you NEED greatly with a 4.8 and a rear mount. Your truck would be faster, spool better and be more fun to drive with stock manifolds, wrapped pipes to the turbo and a .68 housing. This I speak from experience. Also, I had the stock 2 3/4" tail pipe after the turbo from day one.

I have a 3" mandrel bent tailpipe, but it is only like 18" long. I am considering putting a big *** diesel tip on it since my exhaust sounds like a freaking Powerstroke's.

Where did you put the muffler? I had mine after the turbo, and it helped ALLOT with the "whine".

NOT a good idea. Mufflers are expansion chambers, they introduce a lot a turbulence and temperature drop. You want the airflow into the turbo to be as smooth and as hot as possible.

Can't imagine why a tailpipe caused that much issue. I don't see a whole lot of change on my front mount setup between open down pipe and cats/muffler. About 20 hp overall with a moderate change in midrange spool.

Why do you need the exhaust to be hot? Is that just for the speed of the exhaust to flow faster. I just love the sound of my Magnaflows and I hate to get rid of them.
