STS with wide band come in
#1
I got a Innovate standalone XD-1 with LC-1 which is a wide band O2 with a gauge kit. On there tuning forum I asked.
( How close after the STS Turbo can I mount the LC-1 O2. Then how long of a exhaust pipe do I need after the mounting location. I am not going to be using a muffler. This is on a 2001 5.3 GM sierra truck with OEM cats.)
There admin guy answered.
(No closer than 1 foot. But it depends on the EGTs. best is as far back as possible but at least a foot from the tailpipe and before the cat.)
I said ( STS turbo are after cats)
His response
(With a cat before turbo it's really not possible to use a WB sensor there. The readings won't be reliable. I hope you also budgeted enough $$ for cat replacements. They are not designed to live in the high pressure/temp environment pre-turbo for long.
About the only thing you could do (requires fabrication skills) is to tap off the exhaust to a small diameter steel tube (1/4" or less is sufficient) pre-cat and feed into a closed-off bung where the WB is mounted. Feed the outlet of that bung back into the exhaust, past turbo. Put a restriction (~1 mm) into the feed line just before the bung. This will give enough flow for the WB, but reduces the pressure and temp enough for the WB to function.
Please some one help. I thought when I searched on here that ever one was putting them after the turbo. And that is also were the dyno tuner puts his WB for AFR reading during tuning. Speed Engineering put the bung on my kit that I bought used about a foot after turbo to do the tuning on it.
Any input????

Seemed to work fine on the dyno. I have no cats though.

No cats. With the cut-out closed, up over the axle and out the right side near the bumper. It is about 10" from the cut-out. A bit too close for me.
I just took a pic but Photo Bucket is down.

Hey Timz and Hotrod04 how long from WB O2 to exit of exhaust pipe?
Thanks for ever ones input. I feel a lot better now.
Hotrod04 don't forget to send me a picture of your oil cap.
