Default STS - oil pressure

Hey all,
Those with the STS oil pump know that there is a buzzer when the pressure is too high/low. I was curious as to when your buzzer goes off, ie what boost or rpm, and what your oil pressure is set to.

Right now my oil pressure is at 60#s at cruising, ~40 @ idle and 70ish for WOT.

I make about 8#s of boost at ~4500 rpms before my oil buzzer goes on and stays on until i release throttle. I have the GT 70, and never really experienced that with the 67.

thanks,
makani

The buzzer only comes on if your pump is not getting any oil. Its really an alarm from what the install booklet said.

Check this out.

You can trip the alarm if you want to see if the buzzer is working.
I can't remember which terminal you cross on the pump, but I did it a while back and it buzzed for me then.

cool, im on the phone with them now. We are talking about adjustin the switch near the oil pump. Imma try that. They said its not necessarily low oil pressure as much as its an alarm that the pump is unable to get rid of the oil in the turbo as fast. Its almost like its over loading. The switch tells the oil pump when to stop/not stop at a certain pressure. Hopefully it makes it better

Yea, mine goes off @ 10 psi. It gets annoying at times. I just never found the time to crawl under and adjust it.

The hobbs switch is located on the return line of the pump. It will sound the alarm if it is not seeing at least 1lb of oil pressure coming from the pump.

When the pump doesn't run for whatever reason, dies, blown fuse, loose wire, etc., the alarm tells you that the turbo is filling with oil (because the oil is being pumped in by the motor oil pressure )and will soon start pouring out the exhaust.

Carefull playing with the adjustment of that switch. It is not meant to be adjusted. It'll have a "1" stamped on the metal ring somewhere.

You can test the alarm by shorting the two wires on the switch with the key on or with the truck running. Shorting the switch will NOT stop the pump.
