I have the STS in a custom setup. I have the upgraded turbo and methanol injection. Running a very safe tune (8 deg timing under full boost 5 PSI) i run 1 second quicker in the 1/4 than n/a. I don't know the dyno HP but the n/a was 300 to the wheels. For me the dyno is a tool and the track is the test.

I think quicksilverado's times are very respectable and should put any cons to rest, about the ability to be fast with the sts. But no it does not! Why? Because somebody will say Oh, That is just one truck. Or I can count on one hand how many trucks ran a good time. My question is when does it stop? I will be going to the track most likly this month. Lets say I run a good time, I am still only one truck, and still will be counted on one hand. By the way I pm Zippy and we are not taking any of this offensive.
all good points.
Since we are in the performance community we tend to go by some sort of standard of measurement to establish many things, but mainly, progress, or the lack of. Typically, the most accepted measurement process is 1/4 mile performance, so that through math and/or experience, that data can be translated into the valuable information we require to guide us in the right direction.
Next seems to be the Dynometer, and third and fourth seem to be SOTP and a Gtech or other like metering device.
While there are haters from time to time, I think alot of what your seeing is people examining the more common measurement processes we use to define our individual progress

my 2 cents and i dont have a truck!! I do help quicksilverado with his. STS kit is for real. I have an Incon TT f-body with 700+ rwhp but would consider a STS kit with a big enuff turbo to up my hp. To get Daves numbers, we havent done jack to his kit after the initial install....just supporting mods. If you stretched out all my incon piping...its about the same length as the sts stuff so all the "turbo in the rear" stuff is a mute point. Now he does have more lag than me but prolly 500rpms at most and i have dual ball bearing turbos. Get the kit...fuel pump...injectors...2-step...alky( if you want to run pump gas ALL the time) and some slicks and go rock and roll at the track.
If Dave had an intercooler, he could get into the 10.9s I believe with just a retune and 2psi more boost. Now I understand that I am talking about one of the better running STS equipped vehicles but it was honestly easy. He would not have had the probs he's had if he had done a few things up front (fuel pump...tie wrap all hoses...gauges)
I made those same mistakes too...with the same results If you want to be one of the faster trucks, it's gonna cost ya cause you need a forged pistoned motor with lower compression and a 2600+ stall and maybe a 2-step. if you want to just have a fast truck, get the kit with an intercooler....pump....injectors...tires and a SAFE tune and go have fun. GM truck guys are just recently getting big power at the tracks and it takes time learning how to get it all to the ground. The more you guys do it and share info..the faster everyone gets!!!!!

That is why I said you should use the Dyno for the tool that it is.......Measuring the gain. I just don't like it when people go to the dyno with a power adder and bitch because it was not what they expected.....Unless you have a baseline you cant gauge anything. I am not saying the track is the ultimate proof of power, not at all. I am saying baseline, test, track: The three best friends a modder ever had.

I am not braging about my dyno numbers, nor am I bitching because it was not what I was thinking it should be. All I am saying is that there is evedence that the sts power does relate to the track, they are not dyno queens. quicksilverado's times are really good. how many other truck do you know that run 12.47 on street tires? That is impressive to me. There are other trucks that are running good times. I am still in the tuning stages, I have not got to the track yet. I do plan on going. I'm not just speaking about my truck I am judging from other truck on the board as well.

You guys will all get faster with track time. I remember when the turbo f-bodys were LUCKY to get a 10 sec run. Now look where they are. Trucks are the same way. You guys need to share info and keep open minds. You guys got huge brakes that will hold a nice foot stall to build boost on the line. GET TIRES. Quit screwing around with et streets and get you a 28" slick. Yeah you gotta grind a little but the tires will help you put the power down.

All of the passes that I have witnessed at the track within that ET, have all been on street tires. I plan on being in the low 12's when the tracks open back up here.

Great thread.

Knowing I am outnumbered in here, but will put in my .02! The STS kit on my suv is a custom one but nonetheless a good one,I have been rewarded with a 8.73 in the 1/8th and backed it up with another 8.73 and a 8.75. The truck has run 9.65 in the 1/8th N/A.
I have a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0L sohc v-6,I have 70mm t/b,90mm MAF,JBA headers,3" catback exhaust and a host of other bolt on's as well as a fuel system to support the turbo. So my answer would be no the STS is not a dyno queen it is a dyno and track performing queen! Check out my truck on this website has pics and timeslips as well as videos. www.putfile.com/jah81592
