Default Stock LQ4, TVS1900, 2.9 Pulley too much?

I recently installed a TVS1900 system on my 2003 GMC 2500HD 6.0L. Great system, btw. Engine is pretty much stock, long tubes, high flow cats, and super 40s.

Before I get the custom tune done I'm wondering if I shouldn't swap in a smaller pulley to utilize as much boost as I can. The TVS came with a 3.4 pulley (said to be 6lbs) and I have a 2.9 pulley (8.5-9lbs) available to use.

Assuming the tune is done right, do you think this is too much boost for an otherwise stock engine?

Thanks in advance for your input

No that's fine, My LQ4 has been at 15psi for years now. Once you cross the 10psi point I would look into meth but at 8-9 you will be fine.

You should also think about a cam.

The stock cam is so small that cylinder pressure up around 10PSI at low RPM is really high. A larger cam will make a ton more power... but its also "safer" to a certain extent.

Rob makes a valid point.

Great info guys, thanks. I'm going to start with the 9lb pulley and a tune but I'm sure a cam won't be too far down the road

I'll probably end up with the same sooner or later if that's the case. Any feedback on how the supplied Magnuson belt fits with the 2.9 pulley? One guy said I'd need a smaller belt, another said it should be fine.

I would guess you will be fine. The idler is adjustable so you can slide it down to make up for the smaller pulley circumference.
