back to methanol talk ..
in my experience unless you upgrade your internals anything beyond 8lbs of boost on a stock 5.3 is risking pistons breaking, etc (meth or no meth). I know plenty of guys running 10lbs but I consider it borrowed time..
And i would recommend meth not matter what boost you are running ...look up a kit that comes with everything so you dont have put it together ..the alkycontrol (or simliar) kits are great, they come with tank, controller, pump, etc. i personally use pure meth / no water..

I know some windshield washer fluids are part methanol, up to 50% for the -40F stuff. Is this stuff safe for use with the stock washer fluid tank, pump, lines, etc? Apparently methanol can be pretty corrosive. Will it damage paint?

If you leave it on then it will damage paint.. but just dont spill it 
Ive been using -20* WWF and its ~35-38% methanol. and 10psi isnt on borrowed time unless its with a bad tune. Ive gone 25psi too many times
85# injectors were 150% haha..
You can start out using -40 if you can find it.. -20 is the lowest i can find here. ill go straight methanol for the track.. but im very rarely over 6psi dail driving and towing.
