Pro's and Cons of mounting turbo in the bed???
#1
I've heard of this idea before but I've never seen it done. We all know about the STS tailpipe turbo setups but I've never seen one with the turbo mounted out of harms way inside the bed, or even better, inside a toolbox. It would definitely simplify the engine bay. I know having the turbo that far back would tend to make it lag more especially depending on what size exhaust pipe was used. Could that lag be compensated for with a good set of long tube headers with 3 inch pipes merging into a single 3 or 3 1/2 inch exhaust make up for that by increased flow? The whole idea all along was to do a front mount but tucking a BW S480 under the hood with all the other accessories that go with it seems like a tall task and a lot more to take off to gain access if I had to work on it later on. Opinions?

I think there used to be maybe an S10 that had one like that in the bed. I know I liked my STS when I had it on my '07. I chose it only because it was emissions legal. It was never a problem under the truck unless it was raining inches. With a 9 1/2" 3k converter it was pretty dang quick to spool, virtually instant from a roll. My pipes were wrapped well and times are in my sig. From what I understand manifolds work better because of heat retention. If I put it on another truck I'll just hit it with a 50-75 shot so I don't have to lean on the converter so hard to get a good 60'. Problem solved.

I agree with zo6ted. Manifolds would be best over headers and 3 inch pipe. 1 because of heat retention and 2 you want a high velocity of air reaching the turbo. The small primaries will help with that.
