Default Positive Displacement Blower 101 Thread

Hey guys, educate me on PD superchargers, specifically in regards to when to go to 8 or 10 rib setups and which add-ons are advisable (ie from LC32 or others) to make reliable power. It appears that LSA's are less prone to belt slip than TVS setups. Would love to hear insight from guys that are mild to wild, what you've learned along the way, what you would do differently. I'm also curious about the phenolic spacers from these guys:

Olson Kustom Works - Products

I'm thinking of building a mild low boost, 416 setup similar to this crate motor, but without the absurd price tag:

I can't be reading that paceperformance page right. It says 2600.00 for a 416 with a supercharger and a trans. What am I missing.

OH GOD I need to look at the decimal place again. It's 26,398.88

I was losing my mind on the price. LOL

Add more ribs until the slip goes away. Going 8 rib is easy as there are parts out there for that. More than 8 and you are looking at custom parts.

Guys, calm down LOL. That is a retail price, for a drop-in package, for someone who's time is worth more to them than money! Yes, it's "overpriced" to us forum bargain hunters, but not to everyone. For reference that package includes:

416 LS3 Longblock, forged internals, including cam and accessories (you could put a $10k price tag on a forged 416 longblock with good internals, oil pan, and accessories)
GMPP 4L85e transmission ($3500 retail)
GMPP converter $600 retail
GMPP harness/ computer/ tune/ pedal/ injectors $1500+
Edelbrock blower $8000

So if you add everything up, it's not that far off...

8 rib has always worked like a champ on mine, I have a ATI balancer metco idlers and LC32 other pullies, ZPE blower pulley.

The harder you push the blower the more the phenolic spacer comes into play. I have a 5/8 spacer, I think there is a happy medium. If you add too much spacer it affects the way the air is dispersed prior to entering the intercooler, too little doesn’t do much. My setup has great wide open iats, but I have a lot of time, money and trial and error into getting it to that point.

Is it always advisable to run an overdrive crank pulley or does it depend on boost/ power goals? Something is telling me that you'd want to run an OD crank pulley, and a slightly larger blower pulley, to maximize belt wrap? Correct me if my logic is wrong.

You are correct. Unless your only running low boost and rpm.

In which case you would run standard sized crank pulley + larger blower pulley?

Are there ever cases where guys will run underdrive crank pullies with a TVS or is that pointless since a 3.6" pulley will usually only make 4-6psi no matter the setup?

If they do I haven’t heard of it. Not much point.
