Default The Plan...is this a good idea.

So the plan...its a little long term, but here it is

I have a Silverado XCSB, 4.8L V8 2WD

I am looking at getting a STS turbo setup...or custom one, either way it will be tail pipe mounted. I want to build the 4.8L ...or get another engine and build that in the garage, It will be an Iron block and I will take any engine really...4.8 5.3 or 6.0. The LQ9 would be my preference...but that doesn't really matter.

I also want to do the T56 Swap.

My question is really, would it be a good idea to do a T56 swap with a turbo engine? Would the gears in the T56 be able to keep the turbo on boost due to its gearing ratio? Or would it fall below when I shift gears?

I plan on upgrading to 4.56 gears, and that should help...but will it be enough? Or should I just stick with a built 4L60E?

T-56, a truck, and a turbo would be bad news for the T-56. They can be built to handle serious power, but in a truck that is heavy too you would have to talk to the builder to see what they say. I know all the big HP pro-touring gurus use Viper spec T-56's, but how far can one go I have no clue.

I would do a 4L80 with a good shift kit if you can find one cheap and low miles or just add a good rebuild. Either way use a convertor with billet shafts to keep it from balloning under stress.

Everything I ever read on FI and gears anything more then 4.11's is to deep. Turbos need the motor to load up to build boost, and some trucks like 3.23's and some 4.11's. Its all in the complete package. How big a motor, and when the boost kicks in. Or with a TVS and 4.56's you'd just kill the tires everytime you burry the peddle. I liked to build cars that couldn't just burn out. I would play with the gears I had around till they could haze them or lightly burn out under full acceleration. This in my opinion allowed me to be a better driver, and made my cars more consistant when I raced. Plus a bit safer since the rear wouldn't have ability to come around so easily. I had a 70 Nova with a really warm 383 that ran best with 2.73 gears and a 2200 rpm stall in the 350 tranny.

But a warmed up 6.0, 4.56 gears, and no turbo would be a fun ride if you have the traction.

Just remember as you look and see what other people have done its a package not a bunch of parts. So they have to work togather.
