Default Paxton or Whipple for 8.1L

I have a chance at a Paxton inter cooled system or a non inter cooled Whipple for my 8.1l big block. What system should I go with. It is for a 2004 Yukon Xl. I tow a 10k camper every once in awhile and car trailer ever so often. Thats about it. And snow plow in the winter for family driveways only. Any input would be appreciated. I plan on doing the marine injectors and custom tune with the one I choose.
Thanks

If those were my only 2 choices I would go with the whipple. Seems like for what you are doing the low end TQ of the whipple will beat the paxton in all 3 areas you mentioned.

Whipple no longer makes one, I didnt know paxton made a blower for the 8.1L you got a link to the info? id like to read about it.

Also have you talked to STS. Id think 450whp sould be easy with to do with a turbo.. Also there is a head and cam package out there too..

We are in same boat, thats my plan as well, but with a burban.

http://www.raylarengine.com/ told me there heads and normal cam package that come with marine injectors will make 500ish crank hp and 600ish crank tq. He also said you need stainless works long tube headers. I ask about how they revve afterwards ( ours falls on it face about 3500 rpms) He said you can saftley revve the motor to 52-5400 rpms,

Im looking into heads and cam, then blower or turbos later on. They also suggested that you dont supercharge unless you change the pistons.

Search for "tierod" on here. He had head and cam + 200 shot of nitrous.. the went to turbo befor his truck burnt.... he and whippled496 are the only 8L guys with a lot of parts..

I tow 10K with my sub with an intercooled paxton....it gets it done, tune is set for 0kpa (ie no boost no vacuum) downshift, then it pulls its *** off when it drops a gear and goes into boost. But I only have a baby 6.0.

but since my buddy just dropped a built 402 into his avalanche with boost.....a big boy stroker is a thought.

I like the intercooled Whipple, it does a good job with towing, racing, and cruising plus its very reliable for me. Never drove a turbo'd 8.1L so i cant really offer up a comparison. I also suggest you bypass the marine injectors and go straight to the 60's....you are only safe to around 3-4psi with the 42's.

Default Whipple

Whipple doesnt have anymore intercoolers for the 8.1l, their supplier tripled the price. I already have the Paxton but am able to get the Whipple setup for a reasonable price. Has anyone run a Duramax intercooler for the Whipple or how is the Trick intercooler? from the left->

Have you tried procharger? I know they make one for marine applications.

They show up on Ebay every once and a while with the intercooler, just keep an eye out. The Whipple A2W intercooler is a very efficient animal indeed.

I talked to procharger last year when ordering a blower for a GTO, She said " um..no most people buy a diesel" when i ask if they made a blower for the 8.1L... To that i answered Gm doesent make a diesel suburban.

She did say they make one for the 99 back 454 trucks. its ad's 60% increase in power. Id think one could be made to fit, it would just take some time.

Bakc then they sold the whipples there web page said they made 780lbtq at the crank..
