Is a oil film accecptable in charge pipe?
#1
Just wondering my truck finally got back from the tuner last week and been driving my truck pretty hard the past 4-5 days now. I had to take off the charge pipe leaving my intercooler (where the maf is and BOV) to put in my summer thermostat and when I took it off I immediatly seen a oil sheen on the aluminum piping.. Didnt see any puddles but definatly cant afford to rebuild a brand new 2,000 dollar turbo.
Went to one performance shop that deals soley with mustangs (Gearheads)and the owner of the shop told me every turbo'ed car he has ever built has some sort of oil film in the charge pipe and it is nuthing to worry about. Just wondering what you guys think?
Truck isnt smoking yet, but he already recommended a better way to scavenge oil from the bottom of my turbo. Right now it has a 6AN line coming off the bottom he reccomended atleast a 8AN stainless hose leading to a resevoir and then suck it out of there with the scavenge pump. Probably cost less than 200 bucks to do and he said it would definatly help but still would get a oil film. but definatly would help with oil getting away from the turbo as fast as possible..

I have a greddy catch can and it is plumbed like this: 1 tube from catch can goes to pcv valves on each side of the valve covers.. it has a t-fitting so both can connect to this one hose. 2nd hose from Catchcan goes to intake manifold vacuum line.. this catch can does have some sort of viewing tube that the hose did come unplugged on and maybe this is what caused the crankcase to pressurize and blow oil thru charge pipe.. I'm new to Turbo charging so I'm still learning how all.this stuff works. Thanks

the oil feed line size is a 3an and Gearheads disassembled the restrictor / filter and said it is definatly restricted as he could barely blow thru it.. he didn't think the restrictor was the problem at all he said the oil return line was much too small (6 an) and reccomended either 8-10an instead.. parts on order hopefully will get rid of the problem before it gets worse
