Default Now I'm in the 408 club

I put headers in last fall to get ready for a new engine. That was relatively easy, using the stock 3" system. Forgot pics. I thought you guys would like to make fun of my "MikeGyvered" intake elbow. It goes from 3" round to the square-with-round-corner shape of the Victor Jr. intake. I went with AFRs with the 205 intakes, my builder said he thought they would improve torque, and the S/C would overcome any restrictions on top. Everything else is standard 408 stuff: Eagle, Diamond, Comp Cams, Stainless Works. CR is 10.3:1. I don't have the cam card right here, it is something like 222-224, .556 lift, 115° LSA.
I just brought the truck home last night after seating the rings and recording a couple of scans. It definitely needs tuning, it runs rough and does not yet make more power than before.
The scans led me to posting my other thread "Boost loss with headers". It now shows only 5 psi boost, where it showed 7 1/2 psi when it was a 6.0l with headers. It was 11 psi before headers. I think I messed something up on the blower during the header install.http://homepage.mac.com/michaeldritz/PhotoAlbum17.html

Your install is pretty damm clean for fabbing most of it yourself. Nice job.
Good luck tracking down your issues.

same blower +more cubes=less boost. same goes for headers on a supercharged motor. Looks like lots of fun though!

408 cubes, the 222-224 cam, head work, headers and exhaust= no longer the right supercharger. I went through this with my 2.4 Kenne Bell. At max blower speed I could only get 7lbs along with nearly 300 deg on the discharge temps. I think it's time for either the 4.0 Whipple or a turbo system

you da man. looks amazing. pretty sure the whipple is too small for a 408 but what the hell, find out. might as well since it's already on there.

what size crank pulley are you using?

Thanks, Dan. This is all your fault, you know. When you decided to do a 408 with a Whipple, I decided to follow. It took awhile to save up. When you had a larger crank pulley made, so did I (two-belt system). I'm running a 2 5/8" blower pulley. If there isn't something wrong with my bypass, or the I/C isn't full of water (joking, not possible), then you will have the satisfaction of knowing that dumping your Whipple was the right move. I hope you get yours running right before I do, so that I can copy you again.

hahaha, that's funny stuff. i think it was parish who calculated the max you can spin that whipple a few years back. I'll try to find it. I'd love to see you make big power with it. didn't someone make over 500 with a whipple a couple years ago? little yellow rcsb i think. can't remember dude's screen name.

I lost a fair amount of boost when I put my LT's on and ditched the cats.
