No boost when truck cools off?
#1
I went to the track for the first time this weekend with high hopes and had no such luck. Normally when my truck is hot and I have been driving around for a while it will spool very quickly and pulls great. I have g-teched my truck several times on high boost 10.5psi and it runs 8.20's in the 8th and pulls consistent 1.80 60 foot times. I normally launch at 5psi and it spools to 10.5psi instantly.
Now the bad. When I was at the track my truck cooled off in the lanes for about 45 minutes before I ran and I couldn't make boost until second gear. I tried brake boosting it and it wouldn't make boost at all. I actually looked at my log and I was at 100% throttle for almost 4 seconds and wouldn't go into boost at all at the line. I tried again a little later and it did the same thing so I gave up and left. When I left the track I did a couple of pulls and everything was normal. I stopped and brake boosted it to 6psi and it ran great. Anybody have any ideas? I do have my exhaust wrapped and my mods are in my sig.

Mine did the same thing, but i had a hose that blew off, but that wouldn't explain you getting boost later that night. Might check for oil on your maf, i cant think of anything else that would cause that?
p.s. You launch at 5psi? With that 2600 stall?

My truck acts this way every time it has cooled off. When I first start it up and start driving it won't even make the turbo whistle until it gets hot.

The 2600 stall actually works great in 4wd. I can boost it as high as I want in 4wd but so far I have stopped around 6psi which pushes my converter to about 2800 or so. Right after I left the track that night I did a 6 or 7psi launch and my sunglasses flew off of the top of my head and hit the back window in an extended cab. LOL

How did you keep yours hot between runs. I thought about letting my truck idle for about 15 minutes before I ran but they skipped a class and called me into the lanes before I got a chance to try it.

wrap it and let it idle the whole time your in the lanes...it still sucks thou....have you moved your turbo as close to the front of the truck as you can...if you can get rid of at least 4-5' of piping that will help a whole bunch...

honestly my old STS car was pretty crappy at the track as well. We yanked the cats, changed the turbos coated the manifolds coated/wrapped the exhaust, you name it. Just never was happy nor consistent.
Fun as hell on the street (or those highway runs in mexico) but major suckage at the track.

Idle while the last few cars in front of you run , lock the line lock, win the burnout contest of the night and proceed with warm pipes.
I don't know why, but my truck hot laps the same time it runs after a 3 hour cool down.
