I held off putting the kit on until September just to have it still running all summer. I just broke my second new dipstick trying to get it in. now I have to pull the crossmember and steering rack to pull oil pan and bang out from the inside again. I tried to cut it and bang it in from the top got about half way in and broke. might try and get another new one cut it again and be more gentle...

So you're having to cut the dipstick to fit it through the log? I never got around installing it.

I couldn't get it into the engine block.

Interesting. Because of the way the manifold was making everything line up or because it simply wouldn't slide into the hole? Reminds me of transmission dipstick woes.

I think it was a combination of both factors. I cut one I half and tried to bang it in and broke it. The aftermarket Dorman part seemed too big. Tired to buy a napa brand one to try something different and I got the part and it was another Dorman. I sanded it down a bit and got it in as much as I could got the bolt in the top. I haven't seen any leaks yet so I think it's ok.

Interesting. Mine near falls in after it's been in and out some may times.

Any progress on the tune?

I bet mine never came out before because I had to bang it out from the inside.

Its going on the dyno Monday. Fingers crossed everything is good to go and nothing breaks. I'm worried about the tranny only a couple thousand on the rebuild but 4l60's suck.

that 80e shouldn't have a problem. What kind of driveshaft did you use? Skimmed through the thread didn't see what you're running. I'd be more worried about that if its stock.

Also what dipstick did you use? I used a hd. Had to make it fit with a trick manifold.

Just throwing this out there because it was mentioned. I had a stock length ( forgot that part) aluminum driveshaft made. Ran the stock yoke with a 60e with a fbody tailpiece and a stock rear end. Used the same driveshaft with 4" sonnax yoke with my 80e swap. Truck is a swb 2wd with 2" drop shackles and the middle leafs removed.

He was talking about the oil dipstick. Granted that trans dipstick can put up a fight too until you fight the sweet spot or finally get smart and put it in while the trans goes in.

By the OP's last post, I think he's sticking with the 60e for a bit.

Just noticed you're in Deer Park zero2sixT... ever get out to Target in Kemah or the Home Depot off El Dorado?

I thought he meant couple grand into an 80. Hope everything works out with the 60...

Had a much harder time with the trans dipstick vs. the oil.

I never been out to the Target. Didn't know about El Dorado.

Once I get this truck tuned, I might cruise by to see what's going on. Need that, finish up my catch can system, run my wideband/afr gauge and fp gauge. They hang out on week nights or just the weekend? What are the crowds like?
