Default Need some advice on Turbo

First off I do not know nothing about turbo's
I would like to do the STS system setup. Do I have to use there turbo or can I get a diffrent own and make my own kit? I have a 05 silverado ECSB 5.3 Just dont want to pay that much money, when I can get the majority of the stuff I need to make it for free. What size/type of turbo do I need? I can get a T3 from my friend he said would work. He was trying to put it on his ricer but he also doesnt have electritc fans and runs with out a bumber so I not really listing to him.

Iv just about got one of my freinds convinced into building a mid mount from scratch. It should be really easy. Just get some v bands and a t4 flange and Prolly will use the eBay on3 t70 .96 turbo. Then buy a good scavenge pump for the oil return and that'll bout be the most of it besides injectors, cold side and other small stuff.

It can be done, a guy in my area has done it before but I weighed my options. Between his kit, sts kit and who does more research. With the sized piping, the 1 psi switch, pcv vent switch, hi/low oil pump control, and warning buzzer I like the sts kit better. I didn't want to spend that kind of money either so I waited it out til I got A deal on a used one.
