why don't they or do they make left(drivers) and right(passenger) side turbochargers? It seems to me like it would be easier to package. What would be involved? maybe having the vanes angled in opposite directions? flame suit on, lol

I think the only common part would be the bearing. Vanes and housings would be reversed.
Cool idea for those wanting twins, but not practical.

to me, seems like it would be practical in terms of fitment, I see all these TT projects and common sense keeps slapping me upside my face saying "It would be a lot easier if they were made opposites"

There are some backwards Holset and Schwitzer units out there. With a little work, you may put together a set that matches.

I'd imagine it's in the works at the development table. The manufacturers have to be noticing the increase in TT setups. I am with ya on the question, I was looking at a TT setup and said to myself, "Self, I wonder if the turbo world has a reverse inlet/oulet for the drivers side?"

maybe a turbo company will come out with one and make a killing being the only company with it. it sounds like a good idea to me.

Can't you get reversed centrifigal blowers? I would think that it would be pretty similar to make turbos that way. If I'm not imagining things they should be able to do the same with turbos.

Think production. How many twin turbo vehicles are sold from the factory and if they are twin how many have turbos mounted on either side of the engine.

It would be costly and pointless to make a few hundred of the reversed turbos for the aftermarket.

I first started wondering this myself when I saw this and just thought it would look even sexier with a reversed turbine housing on the one side.

There is no doubt that it boils down to a cost thing. But that doesn't mean that it wouldn't be better. I agree the Banks motor would be deead seeexy set up with the reveresed turbos.
