A crack in the root of the weld will almost always propagate to the cap... You need to grind out the entire cracked weld to repair it. Maybe you did, I'm just saying.
Of course, the actual cause of the crack is important to find too.
If weight was a big factor, wouldn't the north/south sides of the tube be cracking? Instead of the east side.... I would just guess that this is more a heat-expansion/fatigue problem. Supports might not solve that problem.

is it mild steel? what thickness is it? it looks like it was the pipe that broke the first time, i suspect the heat from the first weld changed the metal next to it. I had a mild steel turbo header on my colt, it broke at a crease on the collector from the shaping process and i fixed it once, then it broke right next to my weld. I took it off after that, I expect the same thing to happen to my mustang until i build some nice thick stainless pipes for it. I agree with the guy above me, grind the weld out, then you could try to reinforce the pipe to flange weld area with some pieces of thicker metal, but i've seen and heard that mild steel is not good for turbo headers

no i need to call him. they are stainless. i'm thinking it may have been from my exhaust before i redesigned it. i'm wondering if the exhaust was twisting the turbo. i think mine cracked because i use the wrong wire. i have some stainless wire to weld it up this time. but i need to get ahold of trick. he is just a very busy man.

well we tiged it up. trick was gonna take care of it but i didn't want my truck down any longer. no more exhaust leaks...woot... BUT, i broke an axle. WTF tire wobbled the whole way home. i was only a mile away so i drove it real slow to get it home,
we did however decide that if the crack comes back we are going to weld it up on the truck after driving it. that way it is in its stressed and hot position.
