lq4 mp112 combo input
This is for my 230,000 mile 2003 crew cab 2500hd. it is the daily driver and tow duties and needs to be 1000% dependable. The current mod list is a bed liner, stereo, tint and tires.
in my spare part pile, i have a mp112, fresh frankenstein 317 heads with pushrods/springs/etc, a 222/234 .587/.578 113+3 cam and all the misc gaskets/bolts to assemble a motor.
Here is the catch...I want to keep stock manifolds, stock converters and my dual in dual out magnaflow muffler. I drive a lot, and need to keep my sanity. I don't care to rev the engine past 6k rpm, i do not want to change converters. hell, i plan to keep the OEM clutched fan too.
what combo of parts would you use considering it is just a daily that needs more pep and towing power? down low power is my main objective, and any gains on top are just icing on the cake. i don't spend much time up top with this heavy turd. Does it make sense to add heads or cam with the stock exhaust? or just run the cam/pushrods with the stock 317. i'd consider one of the cheap sloppy cams if they work good with a blower. if there is a combo that might help gas mileage while still providing more down low grunt i'm all about it. no meth to keep it simple.
or just leave the truck stock and save the parts for another project....the towing is never super heavy. car hauler with a camaro or RZR. It currently does the job OK, but the gear head in me wants to make it better.

The power curve of the cam will be pretty close to what you want outside of the fact that it will have more overlap than I would have called ideal given how you will drive it. Really light pedal stuff will feel softer, but as soon as you crack the throttle enough to let the blower to any sort of work it'll be just fine. I know you Texas boys are pretty forgiving with aggressive cams, so you will probably love it. It will take a good tune to remove the chop from idle in drive etc so you don't feel a the chop while idling in drive with your foot off the brake. Are there any mileage concerns? Mileage will definitely dip by introducing overlap, but it does have its benefits for cylinder cooling while hauling a load.
Power could be made beyond 6k, but not all that far beyond there as the 112 will roll over. If this cam was used with a 1900 I would say a 6200 shift would be pretty ideal, so 5800-6000 with the 112 may be spot on. If I could go back in time this is the cam I wish I had for my 1900 combo rather than the 222/226 I started with NA.
My Denali ran a better 60' with the stock tranny and converter than with the stock cam BTW. That also had a 222 duration on a 110 intake center.
I would save the heads for something else.

I am more forgiving than most on agressive cams in my toys. i've had 6k converters and cams with events that require flycutting on stock pistons. this truck will never be fast. I have the Camaro for 7k boosted shifts and all out performance. gas mileage and off idle power as well as power while running 70-80 mph under load is what i want this truck to do. It sounds like i'll just be slapping the blower on top and keeping the bottom end factory sealed.
