Is there any reason not to go with this engine for a mild intercooled turbo setup (max 6 psi)? Engine will be left stock except for the turbo. Also, what, except for aluminum block and higher compression ratio, is different on this motor to give it the extra power? Seems like the iron block 5.3L is about 25 hp less.

 

No, actually you'd be at an advantage

Heads are better breathing 243/799 casting. Tuning and cam are also different.

 

Did a little looking around on LS1 tech and it looks like the engine has LS6 heads and a camshaft similar to the LS6 as well. 100 lbs. lighter won't hurt a bit either. Sounds like a neat little motor. Hope it's turbo friendly.
