Actually, there is only 6 bolts, I couldn't find metric specs, but 8mm is pretty much the same as 5/16 and the info I found for a grade 5, 5/16x24 bolt is a shear strength of 5750lbs and a tensile strength of 6440lbs.

my turbo weighs 19lbs exact. i have not weighed the manifold yet , as im not finished with it yet the only thing i am worried about with a large turbo and nothing to support it but the bolts. is gasket leakage. are you using copper spray on the mls gaskets?

Okay, Deputy Fife, you didn't answer my question either.

You gotta figure in the leverage of the turbo hanging off the manifold, to calculate if you're getting close to the tensile strength. I'm not smart enough to do the math, but I do understand the concept of leverage & torque multiplication.

Quik's answer of 40 lbs or more needs a support makes sense, and sounds reasonable. I wasn't questioning that, I asked how much the KB setup weighs. (not exact, just approximate)

These turbos are 52.4 lbs. You weren't running a support with you pt88 were you Quik?

Is the 52 lbs just the turbo, or the turbo, manifold, and DP all added up?

no support with my pig of a turbo. PT88s arent light either and i was using my orignal exhaust bolts

to AZ you got to take into account your DP helps support weight, your cold pipe helps support weight. [if designed right]

Kb's log and my 88 were around 75lbs between the two. my truck deffently noticed the weight on the front spring. however never had issues with any leverage issues. the sch 40 is stout item

now cheaper kits on the market use tube which isnt meant to support weight of large size turbos

Never had any doubts about the strength of the manifold. Just the bolts at the head. And since everything up here is 4x4, a quick torsion bar adjustment would level everything back out.

Thanks for the info. Some day I may want to build a track truck, might involve a turbo, and I've always wondered about this.

Oh, and Kwik, it's AK, not AZ..... lol
