Default Is an intercooler necessary with a good meth kit?

This may be a dumb question but I just want to know if running an I/C is totally necessary if you have a good meth kit? like an alky-control for example.

I am throwing around the idea of turbocharging my 00' silvy. I'd shoot for as much HP as I could make on 91octane gas(street truck/ daily driver). I am just trying to make sure i've got all my bases covered before i dive into a project like this haha

For a race application, an intercooler isn't absolutely necessary. Its effects will be largely negligible in cooling the incoming air. But for a DD/tow vehicle that may see some part throttle where meth isn't always kicking on, an intercooler is a must.

I would think of it as insurance, the more coverage you have the safer you are.

It really depends on how much boost you are going to run. 5-10psi? You can get away with meth only (I did it in Florida heat). Anything more than that, and I'd want an intercooler to keep from having 0* timing.

Having said that, you need a dead nuts tune if you're going to skip the FMIC.

^^What he said. Also there are W2A intercoolers and other ways to run no intercooler at all. But they are not practical in a street car and super expensive. So A2A is the cheapest/easiest way.

Whether it is a air to water or air to air I would run one form of a intercooler for a DD vehicle.
