Intake tube upgrade

I'd be curious if the power loss is in the tube or the filter. I see people going up in tube size but not air filter size. I'd be curious to see how one of the huge non-tapered 6" air filters does in comparison, although I know fitment would be a bitch.

I am going to say the tube is the majority of it....the inlet to these turbos are designed to provide a very smooth tract for the air going in. Remember the turbo draws in most of its air from the edges of the wheel, so putting a pipe right around it and messing up the air flow is the biggest thing. Based on the area, most of these big filters are good for around 1500hp.

Out of curiosity what is the diameter of the inlet on the Turbo? Not the ID but the OD of the inlet? If its smaller than 6" what did you use to step the size up so the 6" tube would connect and seal?

I just received a lesson about the importance of smoothness of the intake bends from my turbo building wizard neighbor.
He redid the piping for me on the procharger in my escalade to have smoother bends and a consistent pipe size, and the increase in snap off the line has me loving the vehicle all over again.
Your intake tube is pretty awesome looking.

I'm wondering this too. I thought that turbo had a 5.5" inlet.
