I was ok with the grainy stuff, but a sharp 90deg ridge I was not. I'm estimating it to be 2-3mm tall.

Keep listening. You'll end up hearing that **** in your dreams. Hell one time I started listeing to it and was reading posts and forgot to close the page and I went into a trance. Its just not right.
