How much boost will it take? 5.3L?
I have a 04 5.3 w/ small sts (t-60). Cam/springs, meth kit, stall. I want to know how much boost a stock 5.3 block will take before "boom". Currently @ 8psi and want to go to 10-12. Also, will the smaller turbo make 10-12 lbs?

It will make 12psi, but it will be hot air. That is not enough compressor for a efficient 12 psi on a 5.3l. Thats the storey with improperly sized turbos due to mounting location being at the wrong end of the vehicle.

Do a search, this question has been asked many times. Once by me. There is no set number for a stock 5.3. The Magnacharger radix comes with a 6lb pulley and an available powertrain warranty. Anything over 6lbs voids the warranty. So that indicates to me that 6lbs is pretty safe. I run 9lbs and have yet to have a problem, but it's only been at 9 for a month. I think MJHoward is/was running 13lbs on his 4.8. It really depends on the overall condition of your motor, mileage is not always a good indicator of condition either. If I was going to run 12lbs daily, I would do some internal engine upgrades. A good dyno tune will make the chances of "BOOM" much less likely.

Brandon, I think you will be able to get away with 10, but be sure to go see Alan for a retune. It is a risk, but having a good safe tune will make it somewhat safer. You may eventually need to go to the GT-67 too.
I think you should go ahead and go all out. We took that '05 Yukon, bored it out, balanced the rotating assembly, polished the crank, used forged rods and pistons, 6.0 heads, LS6 cam and springs, GT-67 and made 650rwhp before turning it down. It had perfect drivability and was especially strong out of boost. You would love it if you did that to your truck!!

Mjhoward is running 13 on his 4.8 and i think he jsut got over 5000 miles on it. He is in instant boost anytime he pushes down the gas though and he suffering from it with his mileage. Only time will tell if it will hold up. He has a dyno tune on it and it runs like a bat out of hell if he can get traction.
