I think that comes down to what kind of fuel you plan to run at 20psi. You could calculate the cylinder pressures with your c.r. and boost psi and see where you are at. Can you mill your heads any more, or use thicker head gaskets?

Way to much 8 all day, 14-15 with race fuel on race day. I will be running 8 on a 8.5-1 engine and like 13 on race day. I think your cr is too high.

it's way too high for that much of PSI, unless you run Racing Fuel, You have to watch out you might blow your engine.

As I recall, and don't put too much stock in this as it was 2 years ago, I calculated something like 16-17psi = boom due to cylinder pressure on a stock LQ9. If you want 20psi, you are talking 8.5 ish : 1.

ok thats what i wanted to hear, so would it be benefical to boost my 408 with only a --13cc pistons. my motor with a theroy 67cc head would produce 10.6cr i figured thick gasket and a larger CC head i could get down to 10.1

so if i stayed with the setup now how much power you think i would see? now for the price of a set of pistons that i can get are -38cc how much boost could i run

I think AFR has a 76cc ls1 style head that may get you alittle lower compression. I think I am around 8.7:1 with the 317's on. I have pushed 25psi once on accident, stoped at 5k rpm. no problems so far, stock bottom end. You will be forged. I think its all in the tune.
