hooking up a magnavolt but stuck on the tach wire..
Anyone able to steer me towards the right wire? I searched but only found references for red connector on PCM or white wire here and there. I have an 03' Silverado 1500HD 6.0L, the PCM has a green and blue connector, and I cannot really see the numbers on the connectors. I find more than one white wire leading out of them too..

I took my rpm signal directly from the pin#10 on the green pcm plug, yellow from Magnavolt with yellow from intercooler to the fuel pump line coming out of the engine fuse box, grey from Magnavolt to grey fuel pump line leading back to the pump. It's an 04 with the returnless system. Any help would be great.

When you dig into the mess of wires by the main fuse box, there's 3 white wires, so it's hard to figure out which one to tap into. The best thing to do is go for the Engine Speed Signal coming right off the PCM. It's a reaL BITCH to get the 2 PCM plugs off, and turned around enough to see the numbers on the plug. You have to release the grey plastic cap over the outcoming wires, then brush off the actual plug so you can see the numbers, but the ARE there. I used Pin #10, it's a white wire. If yours is a different year, you might want to call Magnuson to find out exactly which plug, and oin to go off of.

You can use an ohmmeter and test for the signal at the white wires from the main harness at the firewall. One white is the speedometer signal, one white is the tachometer signal and the other is a constant power. Just poke a needle into the wire and test them at idle, then have someone rev it a little and that will tell you which is correct.
