Default Help selecting new rear gear ratio...

Same truck, new question.
RCSB turbo 4.8, 4l60, 3200 Circle D and 4.10 gears. Truck makes ~540hp/590tq @ tire.
Truck is insane, wants to spin and swap ends @ <40 throttle just rolling into it.
I was thinking 3.73 wouldn't help so, 3.42 or a 3.55??
What are some of your set-ups and what would you have done different?? (I have a 32" x 11 3/4" Drag radial on order to help the situation (305/50r20)).

I'd keep the 4.10 and swap for an 80e and see how you like the 1st gear difference first. Then if it's still blowing the tires off look at rear gear.

I'm ok with my 4l60 (I know there are many haters on here). It'll blow the tires in 2nd and 3rd once the boost get kicking. Forgot to mention a 3200 Circle D converter. Was hoping a higher gear would help tame it down.
Quick Performance is going to change out my gear choice (I bought a 3.90) for free if I just tell them what I want.

It might be living because you can't hook up

Once you can get the power down, the trans may not live a happy life. But hey, I still have a 4L60 in my truck too, so I can't hate on it too bad

Turbo's like load, so the higher the ratio, the better. Is this a 1/4 mi or roll truck?

If you want a strict suggestion without much thought, 3.23's and up the boost if you need to

I second this

I run a 28” tall tire with 80e and 4.10 and 60’ 1.6s with similar power.

Try the drag radials before changing the gear. The 4.10 gears are going make the 4.8 fell better out of boost and will be a little more responsive getting into boost. The 4l80 recommendation and pertaining traction comment also have merit once the DRs are fitted. A taller gear will also load the converter more thus making it feel looser when not locked up.

Trans is a level 6 FLT it was holding 650 tire on a 200 shot.(in a 3200# Fbody). Truck is a 1000# more so fingers crossed. This just my fun shop truck that will play on the street and maybe a few trips to the 1/8th.

the lvl6 trans from FLT is one of the stoutest. I know of a 65e designed after the FLT LVL 6 living behind a lot more power in a crew cab truck.

Doug posted this Tech Tip Tuesday this week.

The Nova sitting behind him lost an engine during RMRW last week, got into the oil and slammed into the wall at the top end of the racetrack.

How to choose the correct gear ratio for a Turbo Car

^^Good vid and I agree. Maybe I should stick with the 4.10 until I get the new tires and see how much it does or does not improve the situation. I am currently searching for traction on the street. Sand bags may be in order...
