What are your power goals? The heads that are on it will probably get you where you wanna be on 12lbs. I would save that money and put it elsewhere.

Since you are pulling them, take them for a decent valve job and get good valve springs. That is it.

I'd be more than happy with 700 as a weekend toy for me and my son and I'm sure the 60e won't last long so that's where I plan to spend money saved

If you're still on the 60e, the trans upgrade should be priority #1 in terms of budget. If you're making anywhere north of 600hp you're on borrowed time.

If you can find a set of 243/799 heads for a deal you can't pass up, then by all means grab them while you can. But I wouldn't seek to pony up just yet. Swapping heads is definitely something that can wait.

Unless you're cutting the heads for bigger valves don't waste your money on a machine shop valve job. GM's machining is better than most older machine shops.

I picked up a 80e a couple weeks back for a pretty good deal so that's what I had in mind after the 60e I heard the 862 heads flow good and compression is decent

Good advice if you have a new truck low miles. If heads are off do the valve job.
