so i got my truck today with the maggie but it doesnt start at the first turn of the key, do you guys think it can be my fuel pump??

I have to hold he key for 3-4 seconds till it fires up... before i took it, the fuel needle would bounce around from empty to whatever level the fuel was a but never had a problem starting!

 

Sounds like you got a shitty pump. There is a check valve inside the pump that retains fuel pressure for ease of re-start. valve dies then it doesnt hold pressure, makeing the pump represurize the whole system. You can put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail, prime the pump and see if it holds it. If it falls off then its the pump or the fuel pressure reg. Sounds to me like the pump is back, time to take it back.

 

but why would it be bad now if it didnt before the maggie, its only been a day

 

Im sorry I must have read it wrong. I thought you just had a fuel pump installed in it. I recently had this problem with mine not wanting to restart. I went in the tune and changed B4304 to .265 lbs/min across the board. It fixed it starts everytime. You may want to put a gauge on it before playing with the tune. Check to make sure that the mechanical side is good.

What year is your truck, and what did you do to the fuel system when you installed the Maggie? Was your Maggie kit new or used?

 

Yeah put a gauge on it. Prime the pump (turn the key to the on pos, may have to do this 2 or 3 times after you hook up the gauge). Once you have turned the key on you can watch the gauge. If the falls, say 1 psi every 5-10 seconds then you know something is bleeding off your pressure and thats where you should start. If it holds pressure then it would be safe to say that the tune is doing it to you. Does it start hard EVERY time you start it or......?

 

its a 2001 4.8, the maggie was installed new by stillen...

it has trouble starting every time, would it have a switch or regulator?

 

Not sure I understand the question. Did you change fuel injectors, did you move your fuel pressure reg?

 

I'd check the regulator first. The installer has to swap it from the original fuel rail to the new block on the Maggie. It's easy to tear or damage it during installation, and will give the same symptoms that you are having.
