Default EGT Sensor Probe Location

Are you guys running your EGT sensor before or after the turbo? I have kb's log style manifold and was thinking of putting it right at the base of the collector.

Depends on what you are trying to read. A typical port EGT measurement is taken 1" from the head, center of the port. The farther away from that you get the cooler the reading should be.

Interesting, I thought it would be better served in the downpipe just after the turbine.

The purpose of an EGT gauge is to correctly monitor your cylinder temps to prevent melting a piston. The closer you can put it to the head on the cylinder that is at the end of the fuel rail is your best bet.

^^^

In this case Id say put it on the #7 cylinder since most people seem to melt that one.

Yea I was just thinking about putting it below the turbo flange to read exactly how hot the exhaust gas is going through the turbine. I might just go ahead and put it on the #7 cylinder bc I doubt the temperature would vary that much from right below the turbo flange.

Actually it should cool considerably past the turbine, from a basic thermodynamic standpoint anyway.

I think he means temperature wont change much from #7 cylinder to the exhaust flange at the turbo???

Oh, yea, I thought he meant post-turbo. In that case no, it wouldnt change much from the collector to the primary.
