If you put it closer to the flange, your going to be getting your average temps of that entire bank of cylinders, which kind of defeats the purpose of it. I had an egt gauge on a turbo eclipse and it was mounted at the flange before the turbo, and not on #1 cylinder. After remounting it in the runner for #1, there was an 80 degree difference (hotter) then before. Take that into consideration. Just because its easier to mount it at the collector, doesnt mean its better. Good luck either way bud.

i mounted mine on #7. i figure if its the hottest cyl (most people melt it first) then all the other have to be good. if you put it to far from the head and your runing on edge then you could melt something and not know you were too hot. because your thinking your at a bearly safe temp but really your cyl is 100* or so hotter and boom there goes the motor. if you want an average get 8.

Are you running stock driver manifold? Wondering how hard it would be to put the sensor in it.
