E85 Ethanol vs. Methanol
#1
Unlike most of the country, we just had a gas station open about 10 minutes away with E85 Ethanol. I know the tune would have to be adjusted for it but is their any benifit/detriment to running e85 in place of Methanol for suplemental Fuel and/or Chemical Intercooling? From what I have gathered online, they line up as follows:
Fuel BTU Octane
E85 87k 100
Methanol 63k 99
Gas 116k 91/93
Every site I researched had different numbers but they were all similiar to the ratios listed above. I buy Methanol at cost from work (Cycle Gear for all you Motorcycle Riders) but it still runs about $5 a gallon. I think the E85 is a couple bucks a gallon and at that price, I could install a 5 gallon fuel cell in my bed witha remote pump. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Rick

That's some good info from Kyle but I'm just talking about using E85 in place of my Methanol fuel suplement. I have no desire to trun E85 as my primary fuel source. Aside from the politics involved, it doesn't make fiscal sense. If we produced it from Sugar Beets like South America, then I would be all over it (although my 401k in Oil stocks would take a beating!).

I think the added octane that the e85 would give you would be well worth it no matter what it was made from, with the exception of crown royal. Then throw meth on top and you could really bump the boost.

i am far from an expert on this subject and am very interested in it as well. for me i am comparing meth vs e85 vs c16 all as a primairy fuel.
i belive meth will pull more heat out of the charge air. this might be unhealthy but try diping your finger into each meth, e85 and gas. then wave your hand around. the meth feels like a 30 below windshield hit ya. also you hear of guys running meth geting ice build up on their intakes. there are tons of guys running really crazy power with strait meth, well over 1000rwhp.
none of the things i posted above answers your question but i am leaning toward meth as the best for what you are doing.
we plan on spending a ton of time at the dyno when we get our duel fuel nova going. i want to try back to back runs with the 3 fuels. each time optimizing our timing and a/f ratio.

I called the Snow Performance Tech yesterday. The pump they include in their systems won't support any lind of gasoline being ran through it, not even the 15% in E-85. That bites.
I'll have to look around and see if I can find a pump that is compatible with gasoline. Any heard/seen one?
