Default Duramax intercooler installation

I did a quick search before posting, didn't see this covered.

I was wondering if anyone has installed a factory Duramax diesel intercooler on a truck with a Whipple or other supercharger.

I'm thinking of putting together an intercooler for my truck and I wondered why this is not a popular mod (to me it seemed the easiest). I figured it would be easy to go to a junkyard, find a diesel truck with an intact front end, take the air dam, I/C, mounting brackets and pipes, and that would get you 75% of the way.

But then again I'm sure someone else thought of this, so there must be some sort of problem. What am I missing? Do Duramax diesel's even come with an I/C?

Mike

No kidding? Too tall huh? That's odd. How much are you cutting off?

to get it to go in requires major modification to the front end. You also need an HD hood. There was a long post on this back in the LS1tech days so it should be here as well.
Its much easier to get an OBX and run a little more pipe or do an air to water as others with the whipple have done.

Cool. I figured I would ask the question before I started buying parts.

it will swap right in to an hd. its an easy swap if you take of i think its 2" of the top and then recap it it will fit right in and the front end swap i thought would work will not the radiator support will not fit. the hd frames are bigger and this is what makes the diffrence. but i bought mine before i knew this i was kinda a test dummy i guess so since i bought it i'm gonna use it just cut it down just a hair and move the radiator foward and set it on the frome with some steel rings the size of the bottom radiator mounts welded to the frame and some spacers for the top mounts with longer screws and it will work. if i can get it cut and caped i'll take pics. i'm hoping to get this underway again soon.
