Default Duramax intercooler for FI gas motor?

I couldn't find any references to it in searches. Is it feasable? Would it flow enough to make some actual horsepower? Or does it only flow enough to support a stock diesel? What's the dang deal?

I looked into it last year and few others here have too, it is feasable and it is a huge intercooler, the diesels are making 30+ psi so it is actually probably more than we would ever need. I liked the idea of having the intercooler up in the grill away from the ground, but after looking over a few diesels there was more to it to get it to work than I really cared to do, the whole fanshroud, computer location, and radiator set up are different on the diesel to accomodate the intercooler. I have a 2500HD to start with and I am sure to fit it into a 1/2 would be even more involved. Definetely do able, but a little more to it than I had hoped...

The Duramax CAC can flow up to 80 PSI so I think you might be allright on a gasser with it......

I know the centrifugal guys were using them, but on a healthy setup they'd go faster by removing them. Yes, it's made for a lot of cubic inches, but diesels don't run a lot of rpm. It is very efficient in the low rpm high torque pulling areas that a diesel survives in, that's what it's made for. I know one guy on a blowthrough board was not happy with his power numbers on his Procharged Chevy and he was running one of these intercoolers. I talked him into trying it without the intercooler, picked up almost 150 HP with no intercooler versus the factory diesel unit.

150 over what? If it's only good for 300 HP, then no. But if he had 650 WHP before he removed the intercooler, then it might still work for me.

Sorry, he was at about 500 rwhp as I remember and went to 650 rwhp when he removed it.

One of the guy's put when in when we were still ls1 tech. I beleive he had good results, They should work fine for a F/I setup. Just look at the power the Dmax are making. Plus the bolt right in with only a few lil mods i beleive

I want to apologize for my last post that I deleted. I thought all the different answers were funny, and I was trying to make light of it. When I reread my post, I thought "what kind of jerk wrote this?" Thanks for all the replies, and sorry about that deleted post. Mike.

I wondered what the heck you were trying to say! Hey, there are going to be different opinions. I don't like them for my builds but I hover on the higher end as far as what I want for power in my projects. There are obviously guys who've used them with success, and there's guys who are hurting their performance with them and don't know. My opinion is they're fine to 400-450 rwhp and become a restriction beyond that.
