Default Do I need a bigger turbo?

Alright here is the deal. I just bought a new to me nnbs rcsb 2009 silverado 5.3 lmg. Right now it is getting body work done being painted and a few other things, so I wont have it back and able upgrade the performance side of it for a few weeks...

I have the following parts in hand:

- mp70 68ar p-trim, 38mm waste gate, 50mm bov
- front mount style manifold
- iat sensor, wideband, boost controller
- fmic, aem meth kit with 2.5 tank (planning 50/50)
- 2 and 3 bar map (just in case)
- 67lb injectors, 2x 255 fuel pumps for mounting in the tank
- NGK tr6 plugs
- z06 springs, dod delete kit, arp replacement bolts, trunnion kit, LS9 cam 211/230, 3 bolt sprocket, tensioner
-160 stat
-other misc stuff for the turbo install and cam swap

-6l90e trans
-tru cool 40,000 cooler
-stock 3.73 gears in my rear end
-all other misc parts for the trans swap i hope!

-lowering kit
-caltracs for the flip kit
-22x9 wheels with 305 40 tires

-Hopeing to keep the stock block and it hold up.....TBD

Ok now to my questions.....

I am hoping to make at least 550 to 600 at the wheels at a max of 14psi.. and somthing respectable at 10ish psi for normal dd... Anything else will just make me happier...

1st - Do I need to upgrade my turbo to say a mp76 1.0 ar to make this happen? Or will my current setup do? I ask since ive been reading a bit and it would seem it might be pushing my current mp70 .68 ar to meet my goals....

2nd - I am going to order pushrods the stock ones are 7.4 correct? I was told to order 7.425 ones with my cam... Is this information correct?

3rd - Do i need to plan on switching my gears since the takeoff is going to be so crazy with the 1st gear ratio of the 6 speed and my 3.73s? Or leave it since it will that just help the turbo??? And anything else i need to do to get this thing to hook?

Thanks for any help....

That turbo woud be good for a rear mount, but kinda small for a front mount imo. The stock block will hold up, just upgrade your rod bolts and keep your iat's down. Im looking to go rear mount with the mp70 with a .68 ar as my target, and I only have a 4.8, so I think you can go a bit bigger. The 72 or 76 with a higher ar ftmfw!

Just search a few threads in this section and you will find that a MP70 should meet your goals fine. Im sure a few of the turbo guys will chime in.

If I do upgrade you will be the first i let know.

Ive read a bunch... But it seemed that most running the mpt70 were with .96 ar if they wanted higher than 500hp.. Most of the people with trucks similar and hp to my goals have t76 1.0 ar and pt67 .96 ar.. those are the two i remember off my head that i knew the specs and wasnt guessing since alot dont come out and say exactly what they have that ive seen.. But then again.. I may have missed some since my adhd is hell when it comes to that sorta thing.

I would just swap the exhaust housing for a .96 ar. That should do you. Unless you just want to upgrade. And if your not going to spin it to the moon don't worry about the rod bolts.

I had thought about switching the exhaust housing but didnt know what all was involved with that and if the turbo needed to be balanced or anything again.. But I assume its just a bigger casing and everything else just stays the same? Would all you do is just un bolt the current one and bolt up the new one? Recommend a place or person that sells the housing only? There are two on ebay for around 200 shipped.

I only plan on going to 15 psi max... So I dont think ill be spinning to the moon.. Id like to keep the stock bottom together as I said. Gotta draw the line somewhere on this truck .. haha..

Swapping the housing is simple, 6 bolts and it's done. A T70 will be about at it's limits with 600, but I think it will do it. It would make for a better daily driver then a T76. The .68 housing is a little small and will choke a bit up high, but for DD would be fine. I'd put your setup together the way you have it now and see how you like it. You can always upgrade it down the road for more
