Default DIY Remote mount turbo

Hi, I just came across this forum in my search for help with a remote setup, seems like everyone here is very knowledgeable on the subject. I have done quite a bit of looking around but i still have a few newbie questions i could use some help with.
My truck: 03 Chevy silverado extended cab4x4 4.8L vortec

1. Turbo size: The sts kit uses a Garrett 60-1 trim .81 A/R turbo on their 5.3L kits, is that size ideal for the 4.8 as well? I only plan on running 5psi of boost as this is my daily driver and i'm not looking for huge HP gains

2. Mass airflow sensor: Where is this relocated to?

3. Charge line: I've heard 2.25" is enough any other size you would recommend?

Cheers

haha i hear ya, so the MAF is after the turbo then and not between the turbo and the air filter? I have a K&N cold air kit on it now and its over infront of the fender, so im assuming as long as its in the general area that shouldn't be a problem

I have pretty much the same truck as you, only mine is an 01. I put a .68 A/R on my turbo and it help with spool up. Also, wrapping the exhaust with header wrap really helped to. I'm running 10-11 psi with an intercooler and meth, but started without both of those and 7psi of boost. STS uses 2 1/2 charge pipes, but 2 1/4 would be big enough. It really does wake up the 4.8. Let me know if you have any question.

Great, thanks for the advice, with the .68 a/r turbine housing what rpm do you hit full boost? and where would you suggest ordering a turbo from? The only sizes i've been able to find so far with a .60 a/r compressor is .48, .63 and .82 turbine housing

thanks again

I hit full boost around 32-3300 from just a strait punch on the road, but on the highway, I can get 6 psi at 22-2300 in OD.

As far as where to get a turbo, are you wanting to buy a new one or a used one? Used T60-1 come up around here and on tech fairly regularly from guys upgrading. If your wanting a new one, call up Billy a Texas Rear Turbo. He is a sponsor in LS1Tech and he will be more then happy to help you with any questions you may have about building a DIY rearmount I'm sure and give you a great price.

I'm not saying anything bad about anybody, but, you are going to hear a ton of ideas from a ton of folks that do not do this for a living.

To properly size a turbo and pipes for YOUR motor and application, you'd better leave it to the pro's or at least somebody that has proven results like Parrish.

i really appreciate all the help so far, thanks guys
Where would be the easiest place to tap into for the oil line to the turbo where i can avoid getting any metal shavings into the motor? I know there are a few spots but what is ideal for this setup?
For return i will just put it into the fill cap like sts
