So my truck has been throwing problems left and right at me the last few months and the most recent is I'm pretty sure there's coolant in the oil. I had the valve covers off to find a rocker that loosened up and there's a creamy colored sludge stuck on the inside of them that I don't ever remember seeing there before. And 2 weeks ago I added coolant not thinking anything of it and now it's down like 1/2 an inch from where it was filled. The past two Fridays I brought the truck to the track and ran it's fastest time last friday actually. Last weekend I checked the compression due to a scare from a couple of bad spark plug wires and it was in between 180 and 190 on all the cylinders so the head gasket isn't blown in that sense but coolant is aparently seeping from a coolant passage to a oil passage? And the truck doesn't burn enough coolant if it does for me to tell it doesn't smell or smoke. I don't know how else it would be getting in there. Also the oil isn't creamy at all it looks normal...

 

Sludge cream is condensation when its in the valve covers...typical this time of year with short drives

 

What year, engine and heads do you have???

 

The bulb is always brightest right before it pops....

 

I know I read that the buildup can be normal but I thought it was weird I never saw it before. The motor is an 02 lq4 with 317s. I don't think it has the castech heads I thought those were on 5.3s

 

Check the heater hose fittings, the steam port things on the heads,and water pump.... If you can try to pressurize the system.... Should just be the 5.3 that have castech heads but castech makes other castings as well......

 

Stock head bolts and gaskets? Might be pushing water slightly under power.

 

Alright I'll look it over again. I have lq4 gaskets (new) and ebay headstuds. I pressured the system yesterday with a tester and after 5 min it went down like 1 psi from 20, and the cap is rated for 15 so it never gets that high obviously. So I don't know what that means besides no isues possibly? Maybe the sludge in the valve covers just freaked me out cause I've never seen it. It's also in the lines going to the catch can. I got to go back to college today but I'll be home Thursday night so I can mess with it more then.

 

I cant believe how much water you get in your catch can too... mine is only oil.
